  • Occupying the eastern slopes of the Huisne, Courgenard, mentioned as early as the end of the 9th century, was the seat of an important barony in the Middle Ages, belonging to the chapter of canons of Le Mans Cathedral. The fine Romanesque architecture of the church of Saint-Martin still bears witness to the power of this barony, as does the remarkable 16th-century decoration of the choir. The fine Romanesque architecture of the church of Saint-Martin still bears witness to the power of this barony, as does the remarkable 16th-century decoration of the choir. In the 19th century, the village was still dependent on agriculture and the production of hemp cloth, and is now part of the La Ferté-Bernard employment area.
