N°40 : Un village paisible ourlé par le Tusson

Mentioned perhaps as early as the 9th century, in 1829 the village on the banks of the Tusson consisted only of the church, the 18th-century presbytery with its courtyard and garden, and around fifteen houses. It grew after 1840, probably as a result of the opening of the road linking the two sub-prefectures of La Flèche and Saint-Calais (now the D13). The houses built along this route made extensive use of brick, a material emblematic of the 19th century. A small castle was even built on the hill overlooking the town. The erection of the church's bell tower at the end of the 19th century signalled the prosperity of the village, which also acquired a public square in the former courtyard of the presbytery, now the town hall.
