The Local Contract for Artistic and Cultural Education (CLEAC)

This government scheme is run in partnership with the Pays d’art et d’histoire du Perche Sarthois and the Ministries of Culture (DRAC des Pays de la Loire) and Education.

Objectives

CLEAC is a major tool for developing EAC in a given region. Its aim is to help structure a genuine cultural policy aimed primarily at young audiences (0-26 years), by contributing to the development, professionalization and coordination of offerings in the various artistic and cultural fields.

A scheme for artistic and cultural education (EAC) whose 3 pillars are :

Encounters with artworks and artists
The dissemination of artistic and cultural knowledge
The development of artistic practice.

The aim of EAC is to give young people access to culture and the arts, in order to shape future citizens and contribute to their personal development.

As a major lever for cultural democratization and a tool for regional cultural development, it contributes to equal opportunity and promotes cultural diversity.

Developed since the 1980s to reach 100% of young people, EAC is education in and through art.

Its aim is to enable young people to understand the world and contribute to their development as future citizens. It is based on encounters with artists, the discovery of works of art, artistic practice and the acquisition of knowledge.

A determination du Perche Sarthois

Onthe strength of its experience in heritage education within the Pays d’art et d’histoire, and sharing the State’s objectives for artistic and cultural education, the Perche Sarthois wished to extend its scope of action to other areas of culture and the arts in general, in conjunction with the region’s cultural players.

Key dates (looking back at the first CLEAC in the Perche Sarthois)

2020-2021: prefiguration year
2021: Decision to commit to a Local Contract for Artistic and Cultural Education, following a consultation phase with local players and the French government (Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles and Direction des Services Départementaux de l’Éducation Nationale).
Autumn 2021: signing of a 3-year agreement, for the 3 school years 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.

CLEAC du Perche Sarthois: projects for young audiences

Thanks to the support of the French government, educational projects are offered throughout the region, making them accessible to schools and other organizations catering to young audiences. These projects are led by public, private or associative cultural and artistic structures in a variety of fields.

The Perche Sarthois flagship project

The Pays d’art et d’histoire du Perche Sarthois also offers an annual flagship project. A 40-day artists’ residency makes this flagship project possible, linking local heritage with one or more artistic fields to offer pupils a genuine artistic and cultural education pathway (PEAC) over the school year. The project is determined in the spring of the school year preceding its implementation. Don’t hesitate to find out if your class would be interested in taking part!
