Education department

Since its creation, the Pays d’art et d’histoire has been developing activities for young visitors. For schoolchildren, these local heritage discovery activities are developed in line with school curricula.

Education department What is it?

For an active discovery of our heritage

To promote an active approach to heritage discovery, we rely on observation, analysis and experimentation. With the aim of understanding local heritage, architecture, town planning and landscape.

We have a wide range of teaching aids, including scale models to help you understand architecture, and materials for hands-on workshops.

A wide range of themes

The history and heritage of the Pays du Perche sarthois provide the opportunity to work on a variety of themes:

  • Rural heritage and landscape
  • Castles, manor houses and fortified towns
  • Towns and villages
  • Churches and chapels, etc.

A mobile service that comes to you

The educational service is mobile throughout the 74 communes of the Perche Sarthois. Visits take place at the heritage site chosen for the mediation (building, commune, etc.). Practical introductory workshops can be organized at a local venue, in the classroom or schoolyard.

Tailor-made, made-to-measure projects

Projects are always tailored to the heritage or community you wish to discover. We can work with you to define the project and adapt it to the level of your pupils and your educational objectives.

Don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.

Activities for all learning stages

The educational department offers tours and workshops for young visitors. We welcome groups (schools, leisure centers, youth services, etc.) by prior arrangement.

For individuals, activities are offered during the summer months in our “RENDEZ-VOUS” program.

In practice Are you a teacher?

The heritage

As part of the “Education Artistique et Culturelle” (EAC) program, heritage classes offer long-term immersion in heritage and the discovery of traditional techniques. They last 1 week (5 consecutive days). They are organized with the technical and educational support of the Pays d’art et d’histoire du Perche Sarthois educational department.

La Ferté-Bernard, a medieval town marked by the Renaissance

Since 1995, this heritage class has been studying in depth the main monuments that make up the medieval town of La Ferté-Bernard, a city marked by the presence of water and the 15th and 16th centuries.

Antiquarian books and traditional bookmaking techniques

In partnership with the Centre Culturel de Saint-Calais and the Médiathèque Jean d’Ormesson in La Ferté-Bernard.

Since 2008, this heritage class has been taking place in Saint-Calais and La Ferté-Bernard, showcasing the region’s two ancient collections. The class enables students to discover the history and “object” of books, as well as the techniques used to produce them, to better understand their role in the dissemination of knowledge.
