Bouloire has been known since the 11th century, when the châtelaine lordship developed and the seat of which was described as a fortress in 1375. Destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, it was rebuilt in 1466. The façade on the town side took on the appearance of a pleasure residence, with its staircase tower and large windows. However, the castle's fortifications retained a defensive aspect. In 1680, a fire destroyed the neighbouring church, the village and part of the fortifications, the last remains of which disappeared at the end of the 18th century. All that remains today, near the church rebuilt at the end of the 17th century, is the 15th-century dwelling bought by the commune in 1854 and restored in the late 1990s.
