Cherré-Au is a new commune bringing together the communes of Cherré and Cherreau, to the east of La Ferté-Bernard, from 2019.
The village of Cherreau has always been closely linked to the neighbouring town of La Ferté Bernard. In the Middle Ages, the lords of La Ferté took over the abbey of La Pelice at the end of the 12th century. Then, in the 14th century, the demesne of La Plaisse became part of the demesne of La Ferté. Closer to home, when the town of La Ferté-Bernard expanded in the...Cherré-Au is a new commune bringing together the communes of Cherré and Cherreau, to the east of La Ferté-Bernard, from 2019.

In the Middle Ages, the lords of La Ferté took over the abbey of La Pelice at the end of the 12th century. Then, in the 14th century, the demesne of La Plaisse became part of the demesne of La Ferté. Closer to home, when the town of La Ferté-Bernard expanded in the 19th century, it encroached on Cherreau, to which it annexed the suburb of Gué-Faux and Fosse Fondue, bordering the route de Paris, in 1889.
