Faced with the unspeakable, what weapons do we have? Between the naïve hope of hanging one's washing on the Siegfried Line and the terrible reality of the occupation, how do we express our anguish, continue to live and love? Between light and shade, laughter and tears, some win their freedom and resist oppression, while others lose themselves in human folly. Burlesque and whimsical, realistic and poignant, this is a plunge into the heart of a cabaret retracing the terrible conflict of the Second World War.
We have chosen to deal with the major themes of this conflict (the phoney war, the occupation, fractured French society, collaboration, resistance, deportation, propaganda, the Liberation... ) through a series of scenes performed or sung in three acts. The women's destinies follow one another and intertwine, with a Yiddish melody as the common thread, pursued by a zealous militiaman.
