  • If not, there is no evidence that Valennes was occupied before the Middle Ages. It was during this period that the village developed on the right bank of the Braye, between the Bonde and Boutry streams. The village has preserved a highly varied range of buildings whose materials reflect the richness of the land and local know-how: brick, rubble stone, flint, timber-framed houses, cob and even old oak shingles, a type of wooden tile used to clad the gable end of a small barn.
